Happy 14th Anniversary

Emery and I married 14 years ago today in a church over looking the ocean. I remember the moment before the doors opened and then looking at his face as I walked down the aisle. I was worried about my dress of all things....it was a little long....and probably too much tulle for my petite body.  How funny to think of that being my BIG worry at the time....whew....fast forward 14 years....and that wouldn't keep me up at night for anything. There are enough worries being a wife and mama.....right?  I wouldn't trade it for anything though.  However....I also realize that if that was really my BIG worry at the time....I must have married the right person....and in my heart I know I did.  Emery has always felt like home to me and that is the only way to explain it.  Home is comfy, a place where you can be yourself....but it can also be messy and imperfect....which is why it works for the two of us.  There has never been a show....what you see is what you get....and I appreciate the REAL person Emery has presented to me from the beginning.  We love each other for who we are...and thank goodness because.......wow....my emotions are a bit funny sometimes.

Don't tell....but I really want to renew our vows next year on the beach....while wearing a lot less tulle....something light and airy perhaps.

  1. oh, look at that photo-it's absolutely exquisite. What a beautiful bride and handsome groom-and the joy on your faces just jumps out of the photo! I love the words you choose-comfy, home, messy, real, etc.-YES-we've talked about that before! What a gift that you found each other, and what a great love story yours is of two people growing up together. ♥ Happy Anniversary, Jen and Emery-may you share many, many more!

  2. Tearing up reading this! I think you described it just right, a marriage like a home. Thanks for making me feel better about the comfy-ness of my marriage--it's just how I like my home! I always thought a renewal would be so awesome (especially since I could get a whole new dress to match my more mature taste), and hope you guys decide to do it!
    Happy Anniversary, dear friend!!

  4. Happy anniversary to you guys! This is such a beautiful post. I love how you describe your marriage to him. That is lovely. I see so many people get married at the beach on our island and it seems so simple and pure to me now. I wouldn't trade our wedding day, but the idea of a beach wedding or renewing vows there so appeals to me!
